Who We Are
Why I Started Hounds & Heroes
Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My first rescue dog was Goldrush, and growing up, my parents and I rescued everything from dogs and cats to horses and cows. Rescue wasn't something I discovered later in life. It was simply part of how I was raised.
So was service. Both of my grandfathers served in World War II, one receiving the Silver Star and Purple Heart. My uncle served as a Marine Gunnery Sergeant in Vietnam, and my father was a San Francisco police officer.
As my career gave me a larger platform, I knew I wanted to use it for the things that mattered most to me. Through USO and goodwill tours, visits with wounded veterans, and years of animal rescue and advocacy, those two parts of my life kept intersecting.
Eventually, the idea became obvious: why not build something that could serve both?
That's how Hounds & Heroes began - bringing together two causes that had been part of my life all along.

Our Mission
Hounds & Heroes rescues animals and creates life-changing connections with veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, and others who have served.
Through rescue and adoption, service and therapy animal placements, equine programs, outreach, and animal welfare advocacy, we give animals a second chance while supporting the people who have given so much in service to others.
We believe rescue works both ways.

Why Veterans and Animals?
There is something powerful about giving two lives a second chance at the same time.
For a veteran navigating life after service, an animal can offer companionship, routine, purpose, and a connection that asks for nothing in return. For a rescued animal, that same relationship can mean safety, belonging, and finally having someone to call their own.
Hounds & Heroes brings those lives together.
Whether through a trained service or therapy dog, time spent with horses, or simply the bond that forms between a veteran and an adopted companion, these relationships can create something neither could find quite the same way alone.
One needs a new mission. The other needs a new home. Sometimes, they find both in each other.
